Inspection, load testing, and certification of cranes, lifting gear, and equipment to ensure operational safety and compliance with international regulations in Erbil and across Iraq.

We proof-load test and certify lifting equipment and accessories so they are legally fit to lift before use. Every item is subjected to an overload proof force, thoroughly examined for defects, and given a marked Safe Working Load (SWL).
Each certified item receives a unique ID, a certificate of test and examination, and an entry in a lifting register — giving you a complete, auditable inspection trail.
A proof load applies a controlled overload — typically 1.25 to 2 times the Safe Working Load depending on item and code — to demonstrate that the equipment can carry its rated load with margin and without permanent deformation, cracking or slippage.
Passing the test confirms the item's structural integrity and its marked SWL, so operators can lift with confidence and comply with statutory duty-of-care requirements.
We calculate the correct test load for each item and code, then apply it using calibrated water weights (water bags), certified test weights or hydraulic load cells with traceable load indicators. Cranes and runways are tested at rated radius and travel; slings, shackles, eyebolts, lifting beams and padeyes are tested individually.
Before and after loading, each item is thoroughly examined — visual inspection, function checks and, where needed, NDT of critical welds and pins.
An item passes only if it shows no permanent set, cracking, distortion, slippage or damage after the proof load, and all functions operate correctly. The test area is barriered and exclusion zones enforced, because a proof load is a controlled but genuinely heavy lift.
Failed or de-rated items are quarantined, tagged and reported. Nothing marginal is returned to service.
Each passed item is durably marked with its SWL and unique ID, and issued a certificate of test and thorough examination stating the test load, date, next-due date and the examiner. We build and maintain a lifting equipment register so your whole fleet's status and re-test dates are visible at a glance.
These documents satisfy statutory and client audit requirements and travel with the equipment for its working life.
With more than eighteen years serving Iraq's oil, gas and power sector from Erbil, Barmaan brings calibrated load equipment, experienced examiners and a disciplined documentation system to every job. We can mobilise to your site or test in our facility.
Because we also calibrate and inspect, we see your lifting gear as part of a complete asset-integrity picture, not an isolated tick-box.
The proof load depends on the item and its governing code — commonly 1.25× the SWL for cranes and many accessories, and up to 2× for some slings and manufactured items. We calculate and confirm the exact figure before every test.
Thorough examination is typically required at least every 12 months for lifting appliances and every 6 months for accessories that lift people or under high duty, plus after any repair, modification or overload. We set and track each item's due date.
Yes. We mobilise water-bag load sets and test kit to your site, or you can send items to our facility. Water bags are ideal on site because they need no crane to place heavy weights and de-risk the lift if the equipment fails.
For each item you receive a certificate of test and thorough examination showing the applied load, result, next-due date and examiner, plus an entry in your lifting register. These are the records auditors, insurers and clients ask to see.
