The Endress+Hauser Proline Prowirl 72F is a vortex flowmeter for reliable volume-flow measurement of saturated and superheated steam, gases and liquids in demanding process plants. It works on the Karman vortex street principle: a bluff body placed across the flow sheds alternating vortices whose frequency is directly proportional to the mean flow velocity, and therefore to volume flow. These pressure pulsations are captured by the patented capacitive DSC (Differential Switched Capacitance) sensor. The DSC element is fully mechanically balanced, so it reacts only to the vortex signal and stays insensitive to pipe vibration up to 1 g over 10 to 500 Hz.
This particular unit is the flanged 72F body in nominal diameter DN100 (4"), pressure rating PN40, with EN 1092-1 flanges in stainless steel A351-CF3M (1.4404 / 316L). Wetted parts of the DSC sensor are stainless steel 1.4435 (316L), in compliance with NACE MR0175 and MR0103, making it suitable for sour-service and general industrial media. The compact aluminium transmitter carries a two-line local display with three keys and delivers a 4 to 20 mA signal with superimposed HART digital communication, plus a configurable pulse/status output.
The maximum measured error is below 0.75% of reading for liquids and below 1% of reading for gas and steam (Re greater than 20000), with a repeatability of +/-0.25% of reading. Standard medium temperature runs from -40 to +260 C, with a high/low-temperature sensor extending the range to -200 to +400 C. The housing is rated IP67 (NEMA 4X).
