The Kamstrup MULTICAL 603 thermal energy meter is the gold standard for heating and cooling energy measurement in Europe. The set offered here is a complete, factory-matched assembly: a MULTICAL 603 calculator (type 603E519), an ULTRAFLOW ultrasonic flow sensor with a flanged body in cast stainless steel 1.4308, and a pair of Pt500 temperature sensors. Built in 2024, entirely new and held physically in Barmaan's warehouse; every photograph on this page is of this very set, and the calculator label and the temperature sensors carrying the matching serial are legible in the images.
This unit is configured at the factory as a cooling meter (class E3, approval TS 27.02 012): cooling energy is computed from the product of the flow passing through (measured ultrasonically) and the difference between the flow and return temperatures (the Pt500 pair), and is displayed at 8-digit resolution in MWh. The calculator's temperature range is 2 to 180 °C and its temperature-difference range is 3 to 178 K.
Flow is measured on the ultrasonic transit-time principle with no moving parts whatsoever — no wear or loss of performance over its life, with low pressure drop and long-term stability. Per EN 1434 the flow sensor accuracy is ±(2 + 0.02qp/q)% (capped at ±5%) and the calculator accuracy is ±(0.5 + ΔΘmin/ΔΘ)%. Per the device label the configured size (qp) is shown on the display, and Barmaan's engineers read it off and confirm it before sale.
The MULTICAL 603 is approved to EN 1434:2015 and to the European MID directive (2014/32/EU) and may be used for legal metrology and energy billing. This unit is powered by a D-cell lithium battery with a lifetime of up to 16 years; a programmable data logger (down to minute logs), a 2-second integration interval and two communication module slots (M-Bus, wireless M-Bus, Modbus, BACnet, LoRa and others) allow connection to BMS systems and remote reading. The set's temperature sensors are Pt500 types to EN 60751, 5.8 mm in diameter and rated IP68.
